The Green Deal is a government backed scheme to help the reduction of carbon emissions by improving the energy efficiency of our homes and business premises. You can get the work done and pay back in instalments. Improvements include loft insulation, double glazing and solar panel installations.
The first thing you need to do is have an assessment on your property to see what improvements can be done.
Next you look for a Green Deal provider who will explain what the costs will be and how you will pay for the required work.
You sign a contract between yourself and the provider.
Once the work has been completed you will start paying through your electricity bill.
Please note that if you are a tenant or landlord then you need to get each others approval to have work done on the property.
If you provide services that come under the green deal and want to become an installer, provider or assessor then you need to become authorised. There is something called the Green Deal certification body register which lists all accredited companies.
To become accredited you need to go to companies such as Green Deal Excellence who can help guide you through which courses are relevant to you.
There are various cash back schemes available and vary depending on where you live. See your options on the official government website by clicking here.
